Abstract (inglese)

Aim of this study was to asses the effects of corn silage vs. hay as main dietary ingredients on urinary nitrogen composition. According to a 2x2 cross over design, 14 Holstein (DIM: 12±99; milk production: 26.7±5.9 kg/d) were fed two isoenergetic, isoproteic and isofibrous diets. After three weeks of adaptation, in each experimental period urinary urea, uric acid and allantoin were measured. Data were submitted to ANOVA (PROC MIXED)
considering diet and calving sequence as main effects, cow (calving sequence) as random effect and period as repeated variable. Results showed that the dietary treatment did not affected any nitrogen parameter considered.
Particularly, since urinary urea, allantoin and uric acid are indicators of ruminal nitrogen metabolism, our results have indicated that the different dietary inclusion of structural (SC) and not structural (NSC) carbohydrates did not affected the efficiency of nitrogen utilization in milk production. In conclusion, considering dairy cows averagely productive, the study did not evidenced any influence of the complete substitution of corn silage with grass hay on considered urinary parameters; this study will be analysed thoroughly by assessment of further serum and milk data.
