In this work are presented the main activities involved and followed during the PhD Research, focused on the optimization of an advanced motorcycle riding simulator and ended with the development of a transportable version of this. This has been possible thanks to the presence of a simulator symbol of the state of the art, start to develop more than ten years ago and evolving continuously by the Motorcycle Dynamics Research Group of University of Padova. The first part of the activity has been dedicated to the improvements in hardware and software of the existing simulator taking it to be one of the most advanced in the world. The system's flexibility demonstrated makes it a perfect research tool and for this reason has been chosen as one of the few motorcycle simulators inside European Projects for the development of innovative systems for riding's safety. In the first chapter are shown some data on road safety in Europe in recent years, illustrating the most common applications for powered two wheelers (PTW) with regards to the concepts of Active Safety and Passive Safety and how the simulators can be used to improve these. The second chapter explains the concept of driving simulator, in particular for the PTW use. Initially an historical overview from the first prototypes of the 80's up to the latest versions used. Then a macroscopic overview of the system (known as SafeBike) and on the validation performed with dedicated experimental tests. To conclude the chapter are also briefly reported some examples of study and analysis on the performance of motorcycles executed with the simulator. In the third chapter is presented the developing work of a portable motorcycle riding simulator. Rather than a document that contains all the geometrical specifics and other similar information, this thesis is presented as the procedure to follow to develop a new simulator, in which are collected the issues, choices, considerations and solutions adopted for the project, starting with a feasibility study which follow targets appositely sets, through the issue of costs and construction's possibilities. At the end, the validation's work of this tool with typical motorcycle's maneuvers to verify the dynamics of the motorcycle. The fourth and last chapter contains the conclusions and suggestions for future developments have to be made to increase the level of the simulator. The activities performed during this PhD have been focused on the macro topic of the Simulator, however many other works have been followed in order to investigate other aspects of PTW that would extend motorcycle's knowledge
