The thesis consists in the critical edition of the first four books of De gestis Italicorum post Henricum septimum Cesarem by Albertino Mussato (1261-1329). The critical text is enriched by several notes concerning Mussato’s language and style as well as the period of Italian history, 1313-1314, which is the matter of the four books. The thesis also offers a translation of the De gestis from Latin into Italian. The philological introduction describes the relations between the manuscripts and provides the first accurate description of codex Vat. lat. 4962, the only one which hands down all the De gestis. The general introduction analyses Mussato’s historical project and its connections with Trecento culture and with the Latin historiography of ancient Rome.
