Abstract (english)

In this paper, we propose a mathematical framework for the analysis of Bluetooth systems. The dynamic of the system is
modelled by means of a finite state Markov chain (FSMC). Hence, we resort to the renewal reward theory to derive an estimation of the average throughput and energy efficiency achieved by the different packet formats, for both AWGN and Rician fading radio channels. System behavior is, then, investigated under a wide range of parameters, like receiver–correlator margin, average signal to noise ratio and Rice factor. The analysis we present may provide precious guidelines for the design of energy–efficient Segmentation–and–Reassembly modules and baseband polling algorithms for Bluetooth piconets.
