Restockings represent an important tool for wildlife management and conservation. They are based on introducing animals to reinforce a population that presents a very low consistence and density. This research aims to study some basic aspects of ungulates release, with reference to two restocking projects: the first one on chamois in Valsugana, in the Vicenza Province, and the second one on alpine ibex, in the Marmolada massif. Dispersal, exploratory movements, spatial use and habitat selection were investigated.

Abstract

Restockings represent an important tool for wildlife management and conservation. They are based on introducing animals to reinforce a population that presents a very low consistence and density. This research aims to study some basic aspects of ungulates release, with reference to two restocking projects: the first one on chamois in Valsugana, in the Vicenza Province, and the second one on alpine ibex, in the Marmolada massif. Dispersal, exploratory movements, spatial use and habitat selection were investigated.
